Pharmaceutical Drug ??? Dimethyltryptamine (DMT)
by admin on: January 31st, 2011

Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is deemed to be the ‘psychedelic drug’, ‘the spirit molecule,’ and even ‘Disneyland.’ It is a naturally found tryptamine, that is even found in the human body in trace quantities. It is secreted by the pineal gland. Its function in a natural state is as yet unknown. It is structurally analogous to serotonin, the neurotransmitter with various important functions such as regulation of appetite, mood, muscle contraction, sleep, as well as learning, and memory. 5-methoxy-dimethyltryptamine or 5-MeO-DMT is an analogue of DMT, which is also a psychedelic drug. Apart from being found in plants, it is also found in psychoactive toads.

DMT is found naturally in many plants, and they are used for a process known as ‘psychedelic shamanism.’ Smoke-able DMT is now derived from the ‘ayahuasca‘ plants which can be grown anywhere. This DMT does not give rise to side-effects such as nausea and vomiting. Its extraction does not require expensive laboratory procedures. Some of the plants that contain smoke-able DMT as well as other related alkaloids are several Phalaris spp., Psychotria spp., Arundo donax, Acacia spp., Desmanthus illinoiensis, etc. Phalaris arundinacea is a plant that is easy to obtain and grow, and it is quite similar to lawn grass. It has a very high level of DMT and is also quite simple to grow.

Some of the positive effects of DMT are euphoria, profound spiritual experiences, radical shifts in perspective, and rushing sensations. The negative effects of DMT are nausea, vomiting, panic, terror and fear, dysphoria, difficulty breathing and smoking, pressure on the body, and a feeling of fragmented self. DMT can be injected, insufflated, taken orally, or inhaled. DMT can also be taken rectally. Taken orally, DMT is active only in the presence of a monoamine oxidase inhibitor, because the monoamine oxidases in the human body quickly degrade DMT.
